By Sumit S Munjal, Senior General Manager, Telecom Sector Skill Council

As India stands on the threshold of a transformative era in telecommunications, the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) is proud to play a pivotal role in preparing the country’s workforce for the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. With the rapid evolution of technologies like 6G and Satellite Communications (Satcom), the telecom industry is entering a new phase of innovation and growth. TSSC is committed to equipping our youth with future-ready skills that will enable them to thrive in this dynamic landscape.

Mission and Vision of TSSC

TSSC was founded with the goal of developing highly skilled professionals for the telecom industry. Our vision is to build a robust ecosystem that addresses the skill gap and empowers India’s youth with industry-relevant capabilities. By bringing together industry leaders, academic institutions and government stakeholders, we strive to train, certify, and support talent development across the country.

Over the years, TSSC has become a trusted bridge connecting the telecom industry with aspiring professionals. Our work aligns closely with the Skill India Mission and reflects our ambition to position India as a global hub for telecom innovation and talent. We have already touched over one million lives, assessed 850,000 individuals and certified 650,000 professionals. With 66 industry-relevant Qualification Packs in place, we ensure that our training programs remain aligned with real-world job roles and expectations.

Shaping the Future of Telecom: 6G and Satcom

Looking ahead, the telecom sector is gearing up for revolutionary changes driven by technologies like 6G and Satcom. While 5G continues its rollout, the groundwork for 6G is already underway. This next-generation technology promises ultra-fast speeds, minimal latency and the potential for groundbreaking applications such as AI-powered networks and immersive virtual experiences.

India’s National Telecom Policy 2025 outlines an ambitious roadmap to extend full 4G coverage and reach 90% 5G coverage by 2030. Satcom is also gaining prominence as a powerful solution for ensuring connectivity in remote and underserved regions. It has already demonstrated its value by facilitating billions of ATM transactions through VSAT-enabled systems. As technology advances, Satcom’s role will only become more integral in bridging the digital divide.

The convergence of Satcom and terrestrial networks is a key component in India’s drive towards universal connectivity. With industry experts projecting a $240 billion economic impact by 2028 from 5G, 6G, Satcom and semiconductor growth, the future of telecom in India looks exceptionally promising.
